Teen Patti Rules: Everything You Need to Know

Also known as Flush or Flash, Teen Patti is an online casino card game that is incredibly popular in India. Played with a deck of 52 cards, the game of Teen Patti features simple rules and can easily be mastered after playing a few rounds.

In this article, we provide an insight into everything you need to know about Teen Patti rules, from the ranking of hands to the complete betting process in Teen Patti.

The objective of Teen Patti

Teen Patti Games

The Teen Patti game is played with a deck of 52 cards (excluding jokers) and the cards are shuffled after each round. As a player, your objective is to have a hand of cards stronger than the dealer. You and the dealer both are dealt with three cards each. If you manage to get a card combination higher than the dealer, you win.

The betting process in Teen Patti

Teen Patti betting rules are quite simple and straightforward. The betting process starts with the player to the left of the dealer and then continues in clockwise order around the table. Each player, in turn, can either put an additional bet into the pot to stay in the game or pay nothing and fold. If you choose to fold, you permanently drop out of the game and lose the money you have already put into the pot during the deal.

The amount that you have to wager at your turn in order to stay in the game depends on the “current stake”, and whether you’re playing blind or seen. The players who have seen their cards must bet twice as much as the blind player in order to stay in the game. At the start of the betting round, the current stake is the boot amount – the minimum amount that each player needs to put into the pot.

  • If you’re a blind player (have not seen your cards), you must bet at least the current stake and not more than twice the current stake. The current stake for the next player is the amount that you wager.
  • If you’re a seen player, you must bet at least twice the current stake and not more than four times the current stake. The current stake for the next players becomes half the amount you put in.

If you’re playing blind, you have the option to look at your cards at any point in the game. You then become a seen player and from that turn onwards, you must bet at least twice the current stake (or fold).

The betting process continues in this manner until one of the following things happens:

  • All except one player at the table have folded. Here, the last remaining money wins all the money in the pot, irrespective of the cards held.
  • All except two players at the table have folded and one of these at their turn pays for a show. Here, the cards of both the players are compared and the hand with the highest value is the winner.

Rules for a show in Teen Patti

In Teen Patti, the rules for a show are as follows:

  • A show cannot occur until all but two players have folded.
  • If you’re playing blind, you’ll need to wager you’re your current stake for a show. You do not look at your own Teen Patti sequence until you’ve paid for the show.
  • If you’re a seen player and the other player is playing blind, you cannot demand a show. Here, you only have the option to continue betting or fold.
  • If both players have seen their cards, either player, in turn, may pay the current stake for a show.
  • In a show, players’ cards are exposed and compared, and the player with the best Teen Patti sequence wins the pot. If it happens that the two hands are equal, then the player who did not pay for the show wins the pot.

Rules for sideshow in Teen Patti

In Teen Patti, sideshow means that you want to compare your cards with the cards of the previous player. You can only ask for a sideshow if you’ve seen your cards and the player who wagers immediately before you has also seen the cards. The player can accept or decline your sideshow request.

  • If the sideshow request is accepted, the two players privately compare their cards, and the player with the lower hand ranking is forced to fold. If both the hands are equal, then the player who asked for the sideshow must fold.
  • If the sideshow request is declined, the betting round continues as usual with the player who requested for a sideshow. A player can decline the sideshow request only a maximum of three times after which he will be forced to accept it.
  • Note that different levels in Teen Patti have different limits on the number of times you can decline a sideshow request. In some Teen Patti variations, you’re allowed to reject a sideshow request once in level 1, and you can reject the request three times in other levels.

Tips to improve your chance of winning at Teen Patti

Although Teen Patti is a game of chance, good players will ultimately have more chances of winning than novice players. Here are some tips that can help you in improving your chances of winning at the game:

Know the rules and ranks of hands

This goes without saying: it’s important for you to know the rules of the Teen Patti variant you want to play. While the rules of Teen Patti are pretty simple and straightforward, playing in front of a live dealer can be a completely different experience for some players. As such, make sure that you’ve played the online version beforehand so you don’t get overwhelmed in front of the real dealer in live Teen Patti.

Know the side bets

Many experienced tend to make side bets in Teen Patti. So, you’ll require the knowledge of all the bets you can make in the game.

Use the sideshow option

If you’re not sure about your cards, request for a sideshow option from the preceding player. Out of you two, whosoever has better, will stay in the game. This feature helps you in deciding whether your hand is worth continuing the game or not.

Know when to quit

One of the major keys to success in Teen Patti is knowing when to quit. As the game of Teen Patti largely relies on luck, your hand will not have good cards all the time. If you feel that your cards are not good enough, it makes sense to fold and wait for a better hand in the next round.
